The 15th-century Dominican church (built by order of Duke Sforza) is listed on UNESCO World Heritage List. It is a very popular place mainly because it houses the famous mural called The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci. Even though most of the church was heavily damaged during World War II, the wall with the painting remained standing.
Seeing the Last Supper is not simple though. You can visit the church for free but in order to get to the Last Supper, you need to book the visit in advance (sooner rather than later because the places are scarce) by phone or online.
The Last Supper is technically not a part of the church. It is located in a separate space which serves as a museum.
During the visit, groups of 30 people are let in to admire Da Vinci’s masterpiece but only for 15 minutes, then you have to leave and next group is let in.
Despite the difficulties, the beautiful mural is definitely worth seeing, as well as the church itself. The church is about 5 minutes of walking away from the metro station Conciliazione (line 1) and it's right next to tram station Santa Maria delle Grazie, line 16.
