Vimanmek Mansion

Local nameพระที่นั่งวิมานเมฆ
LocationDusit, Bangkok, Thailand

The world's biggest building made of golden teakwood was built in 1900 as a royal residence for King Rama V. However, it was used only until 1906 when the construction of Amphorn Satharn Villa was finished. The interior is decorated in European neo-classical style mixed with traditional Thai motifs.

The palace was turned into a museum in 1982 by Queen Sirikit. A visit here is a flashback to the times of King Rama V and the colonial era, thanks to old photographs, traditional porcelain, glassware and furniture displayed here. You can also see the first indoor bathroom constructed in Thailand and the oldest typewriter with Thai characters.

The palace is currently closed for renovation.
