Galata Tower

Local nameGalata Kulesi
LocationIstanbul, Turkey

Completed in the 14th century, it was the tallest point in the city and it still dominates the skyline of Istanbul.

If you make the effort and climb the stairs, you will be rewarded with amazing panoramic views of the city and over the Bosphorus. You can enjoy the view while drinking a cup of tea in the café situated on the upper floor.

It is believed that in the 17th century local inventors used this tower as a starting point for their attempts to fly with artificial wings. Maybe the Wright Brothers weren’t the first after all. The nearest metro station is Şişhane (line M2).
