The oldest stones of this impressive castle date back to the 11th century. It protected the local populace since then, and served as the seat of the Archbishop of Esztergom until the 16th century. Today, the complex houses the Esztergom Castle Museum and is open to visitors.
When visiting, do not miss the Studiolo, opened in 2015 - young Botticelli himself is said to have painted the frescoes that decorate its walls.
