The Symbolic Cemetery

Local nameSymbolický cintorín
LocationVysoké Tatry, Slovakia

The Symbolic Cemetery is a must-see if you head to the High Tatras. It's a memorial to all those who died in these mountains and was created by an academic painter Otakar Štáfl in 1936. There are 160 plaques and 50 hand-painted crosses to date. Originally, the memorial plaques were on places of the tragedy, but today you can see them all in one place since 1940 with a motto: "In memory of the dead and to warn the living."
