Bruges City Hall

Local nameStadhuis Brugge
LocationBrugge-Centrum, Bruges

This astounding City Hall (located on the grounds of a former castle) is one of the most cherished landmarks in the city of Bruges. It was built in 1376, making it one of the oldest city halls in Belgium. This is where the ruling over the country took place for some 600 years. Nowadays, it houses a city museum.

The facade used to be decorated with statues, but they were all taken down during a massive reconstruction in 1959 after they were proved unfit to be in open space. Some of them were recovered and are now on display in the museum.

The City Hall is about a 2-minute walk away from Brugge Wollestraat bus stop (lines 88 and 91), or from Brugge Markt bus stop (lines 2, 3, 12, 14, 90).
