Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design

Local nameBauhaus-Archiv
LocationMitte, Berlin, Germany

An archive and a museum dedicated to collecting, storing and showcasing art, but also writings connected with the famous Bauhaus School. It is an absolute must-see for anyone interested in the history of architecture and design. It also featured in the famous movie V for Vendetta.

The archive, built in 1979, was meant to follow a design of one of the Bauhaus school's famous architects, Walter Gropius. The building the visitors get to see today is partly his work, with additions made by Alex Cvijanovic and Hans Badel.

The museum itself is rather small, taking only about 1-2 hours to explore. It hosts several permanent exhibitions, as well as a number of seasonal ones, with information on the exhibitions being provided both in German and in English. A library is located on the top floor, open only to students, and there is also a gift shop and a restaurant to be found in the building.

If you need to put away your belongings, the museum provides luggage lockers for its guests. There is also a free Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, no photography is allowed.
