LocationLondon, UK

A pub, or public house, is a drinking establishment licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises in countries and regions of British influence, such as Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and Australia. Drinks traditionally include draught beer and cider. The pub is an important aspect of British culture, and, especially in villages, is often the focal point of local communities. In his 17th-century diary, Samuel Pepys described the pub as "the heart of England". Referred to as their "local" by regulars, pubs are typically chosen for their proximity to home or work, good food, a social atmosphere, the presence of friends and acquaintances, and the availability of pub games such as darts or snooker. Pubs will often screen sports events, such as English Premier League and Scottish Premier League games. The pub quiz was established in the UK in the 1970s.
