Situated in a 19th-century warehouse, the museum traces the Catalan history from the Stone Age to the present day.
The museum is located on the second and the third floor of the building. The second floor covers the Palaeolithic period, the Roman Empire and the birth of a Catalan nation. The rest of the floor is devoted to the trade expansion throughout the Mediterranean, the growth of cities and lastly to Catalonia as part of the Habsburg Empire.
The exhibition on the third floor starts with the Industrial Revolution and continues with the electric years. You will also learn about the Civil War, Franco's dictatorship and the restoration of democracy. The last part of the floor is dedicated to Catalan society.
The museum is a must if you're interested in the history of Catalonia. The interactive exhibitions offer an interesting glimpse into the development of this community.
