Neak Pean

Local nameប្រាសាទនាគព័ន្ធ
LocationSiem Reap Province, Cambodia

An otherworldly sight - the temple was built on an artificial island and is surrounded by water which reflects the sky. It is said that the lake is supposed to symbolise a magical lake that cures all illnesses. This idea came from a mythical lake in the Himalayas.

The temple served as a hospital that took care of its patients based on the belief that the balance of elements is going to cure their diseases, so they built four pools representing water, fire, earth and wind.
