Segovia Viaduct

Local nameViaducto de Segovia
LocationPalacio, Madrid, Spain

This viaduct, which is one of the most popular landmarks of Madrid, is a marvel of 19th-century architecture but it is also known as the bridge of suicides.

Even though the viaduct was planned to be built as early as in 18th century, its construction was stopped several times, due to the lack of funds. It was finally completed in 1934. To prevent frequent suicides, transparent screens were erected at sides of the viaduct in 1998.

Sometimes called simply El Viaducto, this place is a site of Almodóvar film shootings and is often mentioned in Spanish literature.
