Tira is a city in the Central District of Israel. Part of The Triangle, a concentration of Arab towns and villages adjacent to the Green Line, Tira is close to Kfar Saba, and is well known by its neighbors for its weekly outdoor market, as well as for its Arab cuisine. A traditionally agricultural town located within Israel's fertile bread basket, by 1976 Tira was estimated to have had up to two-thirds of its land expropriated by the state. Today there are low youth employment prospects and this has been linked to the city's high crime rate. It has been suggested that land loss and a lack of access to education may also have contributed. In 2019, the city had a population of 26,552.
