Church of Our Lady

Overlooking this huge construction is impossible. With its colossal height of 115 metres, the church tower is the second biggest brick tower in the world and also the biggest building in the city of Bruges.

Art lovers will surely appreciate the art collection this church possesses. It has a vast number of masterpieces, including a marble sculpture of the Madonna and Child by Michelangelo (which had to be recovered twice after being stolen by the French revolutionaries in 1794 and then by Nazi Germans in 1944), a triptych by Bernard van Orley, various paintings and wooden carvings, and even tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.

The building itself is divided into two parts. Those who come here to pray and worship can do so for free in one part of the church, and if you come here to visit the museum and see the artworks, you can buy a ticket and wander around the whole place.

Warning: the church is currently under renovation, so some of the exhibits cannot be reached, but the most popular one - the Madonna - can still be observed from a little distance.
