Rock of Cashel

Local nameRock of Cashel
LocationCashel, Ireland

Before the Norman invasion, this complex served as the seat of the kings of Munster. The King gave the castle to the Church at the beginning of the 12th century and since then, it was used as the seat of an archbishop. The round tower was added to the castle soon after this.

The complex also includes a small Romanesque Cormac's Chapel decorated with frescoes and a 13th-century cathedral.
