Forum of Trajan

Forum of Trajan was a large square, completed and opened for public use in 112 AD as the last of the great Imperial Fora. Although not much is left of the forum today, it is still well worth a visit. Loosely connected to the forum is also a market, the building of which is usually attributed to the same emperor, Trajan. A large portion of the market survived till nowadays. It serves as a home for the Museum of the Imperial Forums, showcasing how life may have been in the ancient Rome.

At the height of its glory, Trajan's Forum complex used to be so huge, that in order to get space for its construction, parts of surrounding hills had to be cut out. It was mainly used to host public ceremonies, as well as a place of relaxation and meeting each other for the Roman people. There was even a library, from each floor of which you could admire a different level of the 35-metres-tall Trajan's Column, also part of the forum.

The entire area is only 25 minutes away from the Termini bus station. When visiting, do not miss out on the chance to see the Trajan's Market museum, too. It is usually quite crowd-free.
