The temple was built in 1863 in honor of the god of the sea, Pak Tai. It was designed in classical Chinese style and the roof is rich in embellishments depicting scenes from Cantonese opera
A Taoist ceremony called Cheung Chau Bun Festival takes place here every year on the 8th day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar (usually in April or May). It attracts many worshippers as well as tourists.
