National Diet Building

Local name国会議事堂
LocationNagatachō, Tokyo, Japan

This relatively inconspicuous complex of buildings is actually the center of Japan’s politics. It is the place where both Japanese Diet houses meet.

Completed in 1936 after 17 years of construction, it is undoubtedly an architectural gem. Especially worth a notice is the pyramid-like tower at its heart.

If this kind of thing interests you, count yourself lucky. Unlike most other Japanese government buildings, this one can be toured on weekdays, even without a prior reservation.
