Széchenyi Chain Bridge

Local nameSzéchenyi lánchíd
LocationBudapest, Magyarország

The imposing suspension bridge (also nicknamed the "Chain Bridge") was constructed in 1849 and it bears the name of Hungarian politician - István Széchenyi - who was a great promoter of the bridge's construction.

At the time of its construction, it was the only stone bridge in Budapest. It was meant to show the world the national awakening and dignity of the Hungarian people.

Nowadays, it is one of the icons of Budapest. You can even spot it in Katy Perry's video clip for the song "Firework".

If you are into photography, definitely visit the bridge, as you can take great panoramic pictures of the surrounding city from it. The bridge itself shouldn't miss in your picture gallery either, as it poses a truly majestic sight after dusk when it gets all lit up.
