La Cascada

Local nameCascada del Parc de la Ciutadella
LocationBarcelona, Spain

This beautifully embellished waterfall is located opposite the lake. It was built between 1875 and 1881 for the 1888 Universal exhibition by Josep Fontseré, who was in charge of turning the citadel area into a park. Young Antoni Gaudí assisted him with the design, which is said to be loosely based on the Trevi fountain in Rome.

In the center of the fountain, you can see a white marble sculpture of Venus, emerging from a clamshell. On top of the triumphal arch, there's a golden statue of Aurora and her chariots in a Quadriga drawn by four horses. Climb the steps to the top platform to take a better view of the park.
