This cemetery is the resting place of many famous Edinburgh citizens, such as David Hume, John Playfair, and William Blackwood. Opened in 1718, it is now a peaceful place north of busy Edinburgh.

Walk through the graveyard and marvel at historical tombstones and mausoleums. Notable memorials to be seen in Old Calton include Political Martyrs' Monument, a 27 meters tall obelisk erected in 1844, and American Civil War Memorial depicting Abraham Lincoln. The memorial is devoted to Scots who fought and died in the war.

The cemetery is just a few minutes of walking away from the Edinburgh Waverley railway station.
