St Ignatius

Local nameSant'Ignazio di Loyola a Campo Marzio
LocationPigna, Rome, Italy

Dedicated to the founder of the Society of Jesus, Ignatius of Loyola, this church (that also served as a Jesuit college) was built in 1650, and replaced the old one, which was way too small for some 2000 students, who used to come here to study faith.

Although the exterior might not seem like the best sightseeing opportunity in Rome, it's guaranteed that once you step inside, you will be in awe. The church is way more spacious than what it looks like from the outside, and when you look up, you will see an illusion that makes the ceiling look like the church has a dome.

There are numerous sculptures and statues, the most famous one being the Magnificence and Religion by Alessandro Algardi. Apart from that, there are magnificent frescoes on the ceiling painted by Andrea Pozzo, which will take your breath away with the attention to detail and the emotion Andrea put into them.

The nearest bus stop is only 3 minutes of walking away from the church. It's called Corso/minghetti, and its operating lines are 62, 63, 83, 85, 117, 160, 492, and 628.
