The sculptures decorating this 20th century fountain are sure to astound you. Although they were inspired by a medieval poem about marriage, they are anything but poetic.
Their author, Jürgen Weber, took care to depict all the ups and downs of every stage of the married life, from the first meetings of the lovesick couple, to their eventual demise.
The brutally realistic, nearly grotesque nature of the sculptures led to many protests and discontent among the Nuremberg citizens. Today, the fountain is one of the city's most intriquing sights.
