If you are walking around Gamla Stan, do not miss a chance to visit this parish church. It is one of the oldest and most magnificent places of worship in entire Sweden. Even the Swedish royals have their weddings take place here.
Built in the 13th century, the church is designed in Brick Gothic style. This style, which is characterized by the use of red bricks instead of stone, is a typical architectural feature of Northern Europe and some areas around the Baltic Sea.
When visiting the church, notice the wooden statue in the far corner of the church. It is the famous sculpture of Saint George and the Dragon created by Bernt Notke in 1489.
A pleasant surprise for international visitors - the leaflets with information about the church, available inside the building free of charge, come in several languages, including Japanese.
