This building was built for the 1896 Summer Olympics - the first Olympic Games in modern history. Fencing competition took place in its atrium during the Games.

Since then it was used for several different purposes, now it's used for meetings and ceremonies. For example the Treaty of Accession 1979 between Greece and the EU was signed here. Outdoor historical cinema also operates here.
