Ottomans built this gate in the 16th century to mark the end of the road leading from the port city of Jaffa. The gate is now leading into the Muslim and Armenian quarters, and it is the most used gate of all eight gates in Jerusalem's Old City walls (it is the only one on the western side of the city).
