This museum's one goal is to showcase the beauty of Asian art and culture to the European audience.

It was founded in 1919 by Ferenc Hopp, after whom it is named. Hopp was a travelling enthusiast, who brought with him from his journeys many magnificent Asian works of art. These are the foundation of the museum's collection.

Today, the museum also arranges temporary exhibitions, shows and lectures.
