This monument commemorates one of the most famous men born in Nuremberg, the great painter and thinker, Albrecht Dürer. Dürer was an enormously talented artist, whose work significantly sped up the arrival of Renaissance to the German countries.
The monument was erected in 1828 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Dürer's death. It was designed by Christian Daniel Rauch.
