When Francis Drake attacked Cartagena, the local people built more than seven miles of these fortifications to protect the town. Nowadays, they are part of UNESCO heritage and a popular meeting place. Both locals and tourists gather here in the evenings to watch the sunset over the sea and take a picture with one of the cannons.
