Chi Lin Nunnery

Originally built in 1934, this Buddhist complex was redesigned in the 1990s according to the Tang dynasty style. No nails were used during the rebuilding.

The complex comprises of 16 halls made out of cypress wood, and it is surrounded by a Chinese garden. The tranquil garden boasts Bonsai trees and ponds with water lilies.

The halls feature a variety of gold, wooden, and clay statues of Gautama Buddha, the "Goddess of Mercy" (Guanyin), and other bodhisattvas (those who are on the path to Awakening).
