Hadrian's Library

Local name
LocationPeristeri, Athens, Greece

These ruins are all that is left from the once largest library in Athens. Built in AD 132, the library was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the same emperor who built the famous Hadrian's Wall. This place used to be much more than a library, it also served as an art gallery, public square and lecture halls. The entrance facade will still give you a rough idea of what this grand place used to look like.
