Tashkent Islamic University is a public university located in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Founded by a decree from the First President of Uzbekistan, Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov, on April 7, 1999, TIU was the first Islamic university not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the region of Central Asia. TIU offers programs of study in 10 academic divisions leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
As the first Islamic university established in the country, the aim of the University is to bring to future generations the rich and unique cultural and spiritual heritage of the Islamic religion, and to prepare qualified specialists - bachelors and masters, in a wide variety of fields. Students are required to master the basics of religion, research principles, the history and philosophy of Islam, and issues relating to its role in the life and development of society.
