Kambira baby graves

Local nameKambira baby graves
LocationSouth Sulawesi, Indonesia

Kambira contains a large tree that was used for the burial of Torajan babies according to the religion of Aluk Todolo. Torajans used to believe that babies who had not grown their first teeth were not allowed to be buried in the ground, but must be placed in trees so that they could continue to grow with the tree. Today, this practice is no longer followed and sites such as this have become cultural attractions and remnants of Torajan's ancestral past.
