Ko Kret

Local nameKo Kret
LocationPak Kret district, Thailand

This small artificial island was built in the 18th century during the construction of a canal in the Chao Phraya river. It's inhabited by Mon people, one of the oldest tribes to settle in Thailand.

Hop on a ferry and head here if you want to escape the city. You can rent a bike or take walk and wander around the riverside houses and Buddhist temples. There are also pottery villages, handicraft shops, and a weekend market - however, note that at that time, the island might get pretty crowded.
