Mary's Column

You will definitely notice this monumental column if passing through Marienplatz. Erected in the 17th century, the Baroque column is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who can be seen standing on its top, covered in gold.

Even the Popes (John Paul II and Benedict XVI) had stopped by Mariensäule during their visits of the city. The column bears plaques commemorating the occasions ever since.
