The works on this enormous national park (which spans across the entire space between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial) started in the last decade of the 18th century. Today, the large, open area proudly showcases many of US' most beloved historical buildings, monuments, and memorials.
Among the important buildings located on the National Mall are e.g. National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution Building or the National Museum of Natural History. There are also many imposing memorials and monuments located there – e.g. the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial or the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
When the weather is nice, the walk down the National Mall is very pleasant. However, keep in mind that there is a lot to see, and trying to take a look at everything in one go could prove to be difficult and exhausting. Therefore, plan your walk in advance.
Accessible 24 hours a day, except for memorial closures on Dec 25.
Park rangers are usually available at memorials from 9:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. every day.
Free entry.
