Pori is a city and municipality on the west coast of Finland. The city is located some 10 kilometres from the Gulf of Bothnia, on the estuary of the Kokemäki River, 110 kilometres west of Tampere, 140 kilometres north of Turku and 241 kilometres north-west of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Pori was established in 1558 by Duke John, who later became King John III of Sweden.The city has a population of 83,171 and covers an area of 2,062.00 square kilometres of which 870.01 km2 is water. The population density is 99.72/km2. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. It is the 10th largest city in Finland, and the 7th largest urban area. Pori is also the capital of the Satakunta region and the Pori sub-region. Pori was also once one of the main cities with Turku in the former Turku and Pori Province. The neighboring municipalities are Eurajoki, Kankaanpää, Kokemäki, Merikarvia, Nakkila, Pomarkku, Sastamala, Siikainen and Ulvila.
