Saigo Takamori Statue in Ueno Park

Located at the northern edge of the Ueno Park, this statue commemorates the 19th century samurai Saigo Takamori - the leader of the Satsuma Rebellion and one of Japan's most well-known historical figures. The statue, which has become one of the most famous sights in the park, is the work of Koun Takamura. It was unveiled in 1898.
