This temple, founded in the 8th century AD, is home to the largest bronze statue of Buddha in the world, which is seated in The Great Buddha Hall, the largest wooden hall in the world. The entire temple is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also friendly nara deer hopping around here.
Most of the temple's wooden structures are over a millennium old now, however, its size had been somewhat reduced compared to the original, as the temple burnt down and had to be rebuilt several times throughout its history.
The temple is easily accessible by bus which drives all the way up to the nearby Nara Park. You can also reach it by foot if you exit at the Nara train station.
