Maya Beach is wat er gebeurt als te veel toeristen komen om van het paradijs te genieten. Nadat de Leonardo DiCaprio-film The Beach uitkwam, werd de plaats druk bezocht en uiteindelijk besloot de regering in juni 2018 het strand te sluiten vanwege verwoestende verliezen aan de koraalriffen en het mariene leven in het gebied. Het ecosysteem heeft nu wat tijd nodig om te herstellen en het is niet duidelijk wanneer het strand weer zal opengaan.
