Finished in 1342, this imposing fountain is now a major tourist attraction of the city. Be sure to marvel at the exquisite sculptures that adorn the frame of the fountain - depicting Madonna and Child and Cardinal Virtues. It is believed that the name Gaia, or joyous, refers to the general joy over the fact that water system was installed in Siena.
