This ancient sight dating back to the 1st century BC is simply breathtaking. The adjacent temple was destroyed by Romans in 70 AD, and the wall became the main pilgrimage destination when the Jewish community came to lament the destruction of the temple. And thus it is also called the Wailing Wall or Kotel.
For the Jews, this is the holiest site in the world. Pilgrims from all over the world come here to place a small paper with prayer or request into its cracks.
