Casa Calvet

This fascinating building designed by Gaudí is definitely worth stopping by for its neat facade. Throughout its history, it was used as a commercial property but also as a residence and most recently as a restaurant.

You may notice that its style doesn't resemble Gaudí's later works much. Other famous buildings by Gaudí (such as Casa Batlló and Casa Milà) are asymmetrical, experimental and very playful whereas Casa Calvet looks rather modest. This is caused by the building's location – the whole district and the surrounding buildings are rather elegant so Gaudí chose to adopt​ the style, while still incorporating some of his famous "modernista" features.
