The square has become one of the most iconic places in Madrid and is an absolute must for every tourist. This Neo-classical complex contains architecturally interesting buildings, such as the Cybele Palace and the Bank of Spain, as well as the Fountain of Cybele, named after the Phrygian goddess of nature and also the protector of the Spanish capital. The fountain, designed by Ventura Rodriguez, was built in 1782 and it is a dominant feature of the plaza.
If you happen to be in the city when Real Madrid wins a championship, this is the place where both fans and players gather and celebrate the victory together. An experience not to be missed.
You can get here by metro, station Banco de España, line 2.
